Explanation of Names
Byrrhodes LeConte 1878
type species: B. setosus LeConte 1878
Numbers
12 spp. in our area
(1) (many undescribed species worldwide)
Identification
The North American species are divided between two groups, easily separated by male genitalia, less so by external morphology. The first group (Byrrhodes LeConte) seems to be strictly American in distribution, while the range of the second one (Eutylistus Fall) via the east Palearctic reaches as far as the Himalaya and the island of Sulawesi/Indonesia.
A separation on genus level may show necessary (again) in future, but revision of the full groups, and of those related, seems necessary before such a step is taken.
Range
largely tropical; New World, tropical & eastern Asia.
