Gray Fishfly - Neohermes - male

Gray Fishfly - Neohermes - Male
Durham County, North Carolina, USA
May 31, 2004
I was going through old images and noticed this was a Neohermes, not a Chauliodes. (I thought I remembered seeing two of the gray fishflies this past summer!) This individual was found on a lighted wall during the day and captured. It was not much slowed by chilling and would not stay still, so I let it loose at night underneath my porch light. It buzzed around then clung to the wall in a cooperative manner.

Judging by descriptions of the antennae in various references, I think this is a male--the antennae are very long and have a fringe of hairs on each segment. This is presumably Neohermes angusticollis, the only species on regional checklists and museum listings, but I do not have access to a key for this genus.
