Sesiidae - Clear-winged Moth - Synanthedon bolteri

Sesiidae - Clear-winged Moth - Synanthedon bolteri
Houghton, Houghton County, Michigan, USA
July 1, 2013
This moth was on a leaf, but when I took the picture it caught it in flight. It's very blurry
so I don't know if anyone would be able to identify it. It was 10:00 a.m. The habitat was
heavily vegetated on the sides of the trail. There was a mixture of shrubs and flowers. The
trail was sandy. The location is in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan near Lake Superior.

MOTH ID
This is Synanthedon bolteri. It is another willow borer that is rarely photographed or found in most museums. I have collected many in the upper peninsula but generally in late July in the southern counties along Lake Michigan.

Thank you once again William and I'm very excited about this one!
I plan on going back there in July to hopefully get more pictures.
