Tiny Spider - Parasteatoda tepidariorum - female

Tiny Spider - Parasteatoda tepidariorum - Female
Allison Park, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA
January 1, 2014
Size: around 2mm
Found this little spider at midnight on new years eve. It was in my basement and I hoped to follow it's development but alas it disappeared. Not the clearest shots.

The abdominal pattern looks different
with the more or less uniform darker anterior separated from the more or less lighter posterior by a jagged white line. That's why we suggested Cryptachaea, but we always find these to be difficult. Does "in the basement, on New Year's Eve" indicate one rather than the other?

Once I know the spider is immature
my level of certainty on any ID goes WAY down. =] Too bad we don't have a ventral shot showing if it's mature or not.

I think you nailed it Lynette
judging by this photo - http://www.spiders.us/image/parasteatoda-tepidariorum-16/ and it's likeness to a more mature male that I found today which I will post later.

I saw another one of these last week
but it disappeared before I could get my camera. Hopefully I'll find another and take more extensive photos.

Cryptachaea?

Let's see what Lynette & Laura thinks

That looks really close!
