Cactus Bug - Acanthocephala

Cactus Bug - Acanthocephala
Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Culberson County, Texas, USA
September 25, 2006
I saw a couple of these on a cactus by a trail near the Frijole Ranch History Museum in Guadalupe Mountains National Park. They look similar to fruit suckers I've seen in my yard, but I'm not sure what they are.

Also available at Flickr.

A.thomasii?
I think this is most likely, because there is a marked contrast in the colouration of femora and tibiae, and hind tibiae appear wide until the end (key character, not clearly visible).

Acanthocephala sp.
This is a leaf-footed bug in the genus Acanthocephala, family Coreidae. Not sure which species occur in Texas, sorry. Aside, visited your website and am very impressed! Your photography is excellent, and you have many eclectic interests. I hope others will visit and get to know you in cyberspace at least:-)

Thank You
Thanks for the id and the compliment. :)
