Not a "beetle"
This a a "Giant Water Bug" (family Belostomatidae); genus Belostoma.

Tentative ID
Using the key available here http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/misc/bugs/giant_water_bugs.htm, I am tentatively IDing this to Belostoma lutarium. Can anyone confirm? Thanks

You can not ID this bug to species from this viewpoint. You need a shot of its venter.
