When I got my new camera this Spring, this was the second subject I photographed, after a little yellow fly. There aren't a lot of insects out and moving around on May 1 in West Virginia. Interesting pale legs. ID made using pages in the BugGuide; corrections or affirmations appreciated.

Yes, I think that one is quite distinctive. Wonderful photo.

I've only seen one, ten years ago, here in Durham. Looks like they are about in May--I'll have to look for them next spring. Brimley (1) says they hibernate under logs all winter.
