Woodlice - Trachelipus rathkii

Woodlice - Trachelipus rathkii
Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
December 2, 2006
Size: 4mm
Found in leaf litter.

Thanks Ferenc!
The 2 T. rathkii show different ages of the bug, so that makes it easier to recognize next time I see one.

rathkii
Hi! This one belongs to the species Trachelipus rathkii, family Trachelipodidae. Although most of the identification marks are invisible on the picture, note the row of white patches on the margins of tergites, and the dark stripe on the back. Porcellio scaber is quite similar, but the order of patches (if there's any)are less organized compared to T. rathkii. It's widespread across Europe, but present in the USA too.

Best wishes, Ferenc
