OMG
I live in Spokane Wa.......And last night I walk out on my back porch and seen this.......of couse I freak. I never seen a bettle like this before. I took many pictures. but need to get the flim in. I aim my sister inlaw and told her about it. She said it a bettle I said no freaking away. So have done some searching I came across this site. LOL Yep she was right. I just never seen anything like this before. Kind of cool looking

Banded Alder Borer
Very nice! I believe this is Rosalia funebris, in the family Cerambycidae. You can find some information on it here.

 
Spectacular insect
I grew up in Oregon, and this was probably my favorite insect from up there. The strange thing is, these beetles are attracted in large numbers to fresh paint. In downtown Portland, we would have a hatch of them about every four years or so, and it would really freak people out to see the insects (they are large, about two inches) swarming over a freshly-painted building!
