Chlaenius lithophilus - male

Chlaenius lithophilus - Male
South Beloit - under debris along muddy floodplain area near a slough of the Rock River, Winnebago County, Illinois, USA
May 12, 2012
Size: just under 9mm
I believe this specimen is Chlaenius lithophilus.

Keyed using the Bell monograph.

Key traits include antennal segment #3 not elongate, short mandibles, no marginal rim on the prosternum and mentum without tooth.

Any confirmation or correction to this identification is appreciated.

Also symmetrical pair of pits on mentum,
sharply defined and circular, would clinch "Chlaenius lithophilus".

Confirmed
The specimen does indeed have a pair of deep circular pits on the mentum. Thank you for helping confirm this identification.
