Eristalis, within the Syrphid
Eristalis, within the Syrphidae (hoverflies). This is most likely E. tenax (subgenus Eristalis, introduced from Europe), but the pattern of hair on the eyes is the main trait to look for and it's understandably difficult to photograph!
