Very quick flying moth! - Lymantria dispar

Very quick flying moth! - Lymantria dispar
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
July 16, 2006
Size: About 5 cm, top to bottom
This was the quickest flying moth I'd ever seen, not that I've seen a ton mind you. Still, it was very difficult following him until he landed on that tree in the bushy area behind my appartment.

Moved
to guide. First of this species for Quebec

Thank you.
I have some specimens of male gypsy moths in my living room. I reared them last year. But this moth looked nothing like them, and seemed a little bigger. I'm guessing they can be quite variable in coloration?

Ya, I love those bushes behind my appartment. Spent many a summer hour just sitting there waiting for whatever to show up, and there was always something new. However, if you would have checked the date, this photo was taken in July. ;)

A Three-fer Photo.....
...at least three insect species in that photo. Makes me wonder how many species the tree hosts at this time of the year.
