Insect Garden

Hello all,

I wanted to get your opinion on the subject. I am an amature insect watcher/collector and am getting ready to start a garden to try to attract insects to study and/or capture for my collection. Here is a diagram of what I am thiking. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to attract as many different species of insects as possible.

Go native!
Insects have coevolved with native plants. You will increase your chances of finding insects if your garden is made primarily or entirely of native plants. Don't miss Doug Tallamy's Bringing Nature Home.
BTW, most of my photos of insects are taken at nature centers that grow mostly native plants.

What she said
Native plants are definitely the way to go~ Maybe go visit some wild areas nearby (as similar as possible to where you're building the garden would have been before development) and check which plants seem to attract a large variety of insects, and then try to acquire plants of that species. Going at different times of year is important too because insects often have life cycles coinciding with their host plant.
