Around here these beetles are occasionally seen flying about in the daytime, occasionally bumping into people. I once found one on the back of a lady in a store. I said to her, 'hold still, there is a little beetle on your back.' I picked it up with two fingers and showed it to her. She was not to happy to see how big it really was!
