Eastern Yellowjacket - Vespula maculifrons - female

Eastern Yellowjacket - Vespula maculifrons - Female
Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina, USA
March 22, 2014
After observing this wasp for close to 10 minutes, I've gathered the assumption that it's a female because she kept flying from one place to the next attempting to lay eggs. I'm not certain what type of wasp it is, but I can say with certainty that it wasn't aggressive in the way that I'm used to yellow jackets being (if that's what it is). She was very calm and curious. :)

Vespula
Reminds me of a Vespula queen I uploaded here a couple years ago.

I don't know how to tell the species apart, but here is a reference page.
