After
Land, figures 5(b) and 5(c) (inset).
The sparsely covered and fairly translucent carapace allowed a terrific opportunity to observe eye movements. Spider was placed between crossed polarizing filters spaced 1" apart and photographed with transmitted light (flash). Some incident light is present due to reflections from the side walls of the shooting container.
Inset image shows the left AM eye tube displaced medially at roughly 30° from the body axis and the right tube at around 14° laterally.
If the paper cited above was interesting, I highly recommend
this one also, which covers AME structure in great detail.
