Scorpion
there is a pic of a Striped Bark Scorpion in the guide found 60 miles North of you, you may be able to compare yours to.... http://bugguide.net/node/view/34417/bgpage

Late 70s early 80s my uncle was the bank president in Carrizo Springs (Union State bank I think it was) and he lived on 33 acre citrus orchard so I had a blast in the Summers when was a kid exploring those ranches down there..miss those times.

Centruroides vittatus (Striped Bark Scorpion)
I think it is a safe bet to say thats what this is. It has the triangle on the back of its head pointing towards the rear. the two dark lines on the abdomen and the tip of the stinger is black.

Dang...
That picture at that link is nice! (lol, I shot it). Actually, I was hoping a scorpion expert would chime in and verify my ID since I am very "layman" in that area. It looks like the same one to me too but just wanted to make sure before including it in the guide. Thanks for the reply.

LOL
too funny...have a good holiday down there

by the way...

I know the bank well and some of the emloyees. I know that orchard well too if it's the one off of FM 186. I know the ranches too, I wear a green uniform so you probably know what I do...That orchard looks like it had some serious citrus there at one point. It's kinda sad looking now but there are still some. I just picked myself a bag full of Grapefruit today at a friends place down there today. Nice weather down here today, shoulda been here ;)

Orchard
I don't remember the road name but I believe it was right at 3 miles south/sw of carrizo springs on the right side of the road. There was a 15 acre citrus orchard..organic, owned by a retired air force colonel right across the road. My understanding all that used to be orchards the late 1800s all the way down to the valley. After my Uncle sold his orchard and moved away the new ownership plowed the orchard under and began raising ostriches. His driveway up to the house was lined with date palms...and ya can believe I had more pet horned toads those Summers than you could shake a stick at..hehe thanks for bringing up those good old memories
