Long-Legged Fly (Probably Chrysotus) - Chrysotus - female

Long-Legged Fly (Probably Chrysotus) - Chrysotus - Female
Fullerton Arboretum, Fullerton, Orange County, California, USA
December 19, 2006
Size: ~6mm
Might be long-legged fly, but legs looked short for that, plus I couldn't determine if body was tapered.

Moved
Moved from Longlegged Flies.

Dolichopodidae.
I would concur with your initial assessment. Not all dolichopodids have long legs, and females (the gender of which I believe this specimen is) have an unmodified abdomen.

Good to know
Thanks, Eric. I continue to be puzzled at how the definitions for some insects are so narrow, while others are so tight. Sometime, I think I should have stuck to butterflies, but the flies are much more interesting.

Dolichopodidae
This is a dolichopodid, probably in the genus Chrysotus

Looks right to me
I've seen a lot of these, and the wings often look iridescent. A Bug Guide image has that same look. Thanks again, Norm.
