False Bombardier Beetle - Galerita bicolor

False Bombardier Beetle - Galerita bicolor
Albemarle County, Virginia, USA
Found under cover in the first half of April.

Galerita bicolor
This is Galerita bicolor, according to shape of head, shown in key on p. 128, figs. 131-133 of Ciegler, Ground Beetles of South Carolina (1). Dillon, p. 105 (2), keys B. bicolor vs. B. janus based on shape of pronotum, also indicating this is G. bicolor. I'll move to the guide for that species.

Thanks, Patrick!
Thanks, Patrick! That's useful information about these two similar species, and I'm glad you were able to use it to move this image from the Galerita page to the G. bicolor page.
