Gyponana - Gyponana gladia - female

Gyponana - Gyponana gladia - Female
Burlington Outdoor Recreation Centre, Nashville, Ontario, Canada
September 19, 2000
Size: 11 mm
Specimen in poor condition, probably the oldest one for which I have complete information for the date and location fields. I thought I should still post this one since it appears to be a Gyponana that is pink, not green! Appears to be a female, since it has what appears to be an ovipositor, hidden by the wings in this photograph (but if you look hard you'll see it as the dark object near the leading edge). Collected from the trunk of a massive tree, probably a maple.

Moved tentatively

Thanks.
The specimen itself is actually a deep rosy pink in the veins, so it did look different at first glance. I guess the camera flash kind of offset the color. Well, at least here's an Ontario photo for G. octolineata. I'd rather it be replaced by a photo of a better specimen though.

Gyponana octolineata
The color is distinctive. In most specimens the red does not cover all the veins, but it does not extend to the wing surface itself.

G. octolineata?
There's some in the Guide that have brownish or orangish or reddish veins like yours. Not really pink though, at least not compared to this one which seems to be short on pigment.
