Clivina Ground Beetle - Paraclivina bipustulata

Clivina Ground Beetle - Paraclivina bipustulata
Albemarle County, Virginia, USA
Ground beetle attracted to lights. Similar to genus Scarities, but my best effort is to say Clivina bipustulata. Corrections or other feedback appreciated.

Clivina bipustulata
Your photo also compares well with this image taken from the second page of "Ground Beetles of Canada" (the first page starts here).

Consistent with description --SC
Ground Beetles of South Carolina (1) has a description of C. bipustulata, and it seems consistent with your photo" 6-7.5 mm. Shiny black or dark piceous, except for basal and preapical red spots on each elytron extended nearly to sutur; middle and hind legs and antennae reddish...."

C. convexa and C. postica listed in that book also have some reddish spots, but not the two sets you can see in your photo. Others in genus listed there are all black, or all reddish, for what coloration is worth.

Again, I'm just reading a reference and looking at the photo.

Thanks, Patrick
Thanks, Patrick. I don't have that book, but Dillon and Dillon steered me toward this species. One key characteristic seems to be a depressed medial line on the pronotum, but my photo doesn't give any detail in the black that makes up the pronotum. Still, the other characteristics seem to match...
