Did you save the fly?
Do you still have the fly?

No, my research permit
only allows for the collection of Auchenorrhyncha, everything else must be released. However, this fly is common enough where I'm sure I can find one not located where my research is done if you would like.

Alien
This species is not native. It was introduced from Asia via Florida, probably in the 1990s. There are similar looking native species, which have larger spots on the front of the thorax. If you can catch this species an expert could confirm the spread from Florida to the Northeast. Males are better; identification is considered more reliable.
