Canthon Enlarged - Canthon

Canthon Enlarged - Canthon
Rockingham County, Virginia, USA
I have just enlarged this from my post earlier today at Patrick's suggestion, though I wasn't able to post anything much better than before as to showing details. My other views of the beetle actually showed less of the head than this one.

Negatives are less forgiving of blowing up like this than are digital images, but the real problem is that I don't have a lot of poses of the tumblebug from different angles.

Big eyes, maybe C. vigilans?
Well, the large eyes are supposed to be characteristic of C. vigilans, but I have little experience--I've just seen a couple of these. (Other species are supposed to have really narrow, slit-like eyes. However, I'd really like to see several species for comparison. Maybe this summer I'll hang out around some dung somewhere!)
