Stiletto vs Snipe
Thanks for your comments. Now that I have been pointed to Snipe I can see that it is probably that. The key I am using separates snipe from stiletto at the couplet that has stiletto having two foot pads and snipe having three foot pads. Unfortunately my photo's don't really show that feature, though with some imagination either possability can be seen. This fly is starting to show a little gold on the top of the thorax, perhaps that comes on more strongly with age.

Stiletto looks right to me, but I'm no expert.

I believe this is a Snipe Fly, family Rhagionidae. The genus may be Chrysopilus.

Rhagionidae, Chrysopilus. Admittedly, Rhagionids and Therevids do have similar venation. This fly looks more like
