Buckeye from San Bruno Mountain - Junonia grisea
On south slope of San Bruno Mountain, San Mateo County, California, USA
The most cooperative Buckeye I've ever met!! Stayed still for a photo...and even let me eat a snack while sitting right next to it!! Probably helped that the typical gale force winds were blowing on San Bruno Mountain :-)

Blue patch between orange wing bars
I had occasion to revisit this post, and noticed that most current BugGuide images lack the bluish patch between the two orange bars on the basal half of the leading edge of the fore-wings. In a random sample of BugGuide images nearly all had a uniform brown color between those two orange bars:


                 

Had to search for quite a while before I found a few with some blue there...e.g. like those below:
