Ladybird Larva, with prey - Harmonia axyridis
Chattahoochee Nat'l Rec Area, Medlock Bridge, Georgia, USA
August 25, 2003

Another record
It took long enough! Submitted on 16 February, 2004, IDed to species on 25 July, 2009; 5 years and 5 months later. This is a new record. We should show this to those who get a little impatient.

all the way on the last page...
It was the last image on the last page of the "Unidentified larva/pupa" section...required some stamina to go through all of 'em and get there :-)

Harmonia axyridis, first instar
The double-branched tips of the abdominal tubercules are diagnostic for this species, and are visible within 24 hours of egg hatch.

The first instar is solid black - a little orange is visible in the 2nd instar, but the distinctive orange pattern associated with the species is not evident until the third and fourth instars.
