Fire-Colored Beetle - Neopyrochroa femoralis - male

Fire-Colored Beetle - Neopyrochroa femoralis - Male
Albemarle County, Virginia, USA
April 22, 1985
Robin's nice photo of a female of this Family led me to dig out this old photograph from Virginia, depicting a male. The beetle was attracted to lights on April 23.

I believe this might be genus Dendroides; I would value others’ comments.

Neopyrochroa femoralis -
Yes, this is an adult male of N. femoralis; one of four species in the genus (endemic to NA with two eastern and two Californian species). The bicolored legs (black beyond the femora) were no doubt behind LeConte's name. The leg color and eastern locality confirm the species; the configuration of the paired pits between the eyes and degree of pectination of the antennae confirm the (male) sex. D. Young; Univ. Wisconsin; 27 Jan. 2008.

Neopyrochroa femoralis
Working with Downie & Arnett, I believe this is N. femoralis. I'm posting a new view with ID comments:
