Unidentified Freshwater Larva - Maccaffertium terminatum

Unidentified Freshwater Larva - Maccaffertium terminatum
Renton, King County, Washington, USA
April 23, 2014

Roger
I don't think Roger has seen this page yet.

Au countraire,
Roger chose remain silent regarding this identification, which was made by (BugGuide Contributing Editor and professional aquatic insect specialist) Brady Richards. I generally defer to Brady's expertise regarding mayfly larval lifestage identifications, and focus on mayfly winged lifestage identifications with which professional aquatic insect specialists tend to be less familiar.

Not maccaffertium
This is not of the genus Maccaffertium the gills are laterally inserted. On Maccaffertium the gills are dorsal-laterally inserted.
The maculation pattern, gills, and general shape suggest Nixe. Being a freshly molted sample makes it tough to be sure.
It may be other than Nixe but it is not Maccaffertium.

Looking at Webb & McCafferty 2011 for Nixe based on the maculation tergite pattern I would go with (Nixe flowersi) as a species.

Mack.

Sort it out ...
Mack, since I depend on you and Roger for mayfly IDs, I'm going to let you two sort this one out.
