Heringia salax (Loew), male
Moved from
Platycheirus
. ID'd from specimen, now a photo-voucher. Thanks Lisa!
The hairy eyes are, as far as I know, inconsistent with Platycheirus. Keys best to the complex of genera including Heringia, Pipiza, and Trichopsomyia, which are difficult to tell apart. This individual fits the description of H. salax pretty well.

Whoops, I completely missed the haired eyes - they're harder to see in the picture, but I'm glad that the fly was identified!

Pretty sure this is
Platycheirus
- some species don't have strong abdominal markings. General body habitus inconsistent with
Heringia
and related species, and also with
Cheilosa
