Balsam fir sawfly - Neodiprion abietis - male

Balsam fir sawfly - Neodiprion abietis - Male
Saddleback Mountain, Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada
August 31, 2011
Males, emerged from cocoons (collected at Saddleback Mountain).

All related pictures (taken by various DNR staff) were taken during a localized outbreak. Species was determined (specimens) by the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources entomologist. The pictures are of mediocre quality, but as there currently aren't any others on Bug Guide I thought they'd do the trick.

Diprionidae
From the pictures, all I could tell is Neodiprion sp., males. Males of Neodiprion cannot be identified. However, if these are associated with females reared from Abies and identified as Neodiprion abietis, then I would assume they are Neodiprion abietis.

This picture...
...and all others I submitted for Neodiprion abietis were part of the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources Forest Pest Management involvement in a biological control program during an outbreak.
I added more info and thumbnails to the "remarks" section in an effort to tie things together better.
