Spider Wasp - Auplopus - Female
Stateline Overlook, Alpine, Bergen County, New Jersey, USA

Size: appx 13mm
2 or 3 of these were scooting around a low stone wall, going in and out of crevices and taking short flights. Looked teal blue. No other pics available. Thanks, Sandy

Moved from Wasps.

looks like an Auplopus, probably building a nest in the cracks of the wall

Yes.
I agree with Edward on the ID. We also know it is a female because female Auplopus use the flattened tip of the abdomen as a "trowel," much like a mason uses his knife, to sculpt their mud nests. This one has dried mud on her posterior:-)

Thanks Eric,
I was trying to figure out what that was! Sandy

Thanks Edward
A new critter for me, so thanks for the ID. Really appreciate it! Sandy
