Luna Moth - Actias luna

Luna Moth - Actias luna
Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas, USA
May 6, 2014
Size: 4.25 inch wingspan
This is a female(?) luna moth that was sitting on the parking lot of the Rural Water District #3 building here in Topeka, KS. I picked her up and she fluttered to the grass, away from the potentially dangerous lot. The individual is only the second one that I have seen in my six years of living here. Special thanks to my friend Liana K. for finding this individual.

BG first for Kansas in May!

Nice!
I knew the first generation in the year comes out around April or May. However, I haven't seen too many of these over the years (probably didn't help that I did not actively tried to search them out). I remember the last one I saw I was still in sixth grade!
