What are these? - Brachyiulus

What are these? - Brachyiulus
My back garden, Baltimore City County, Maryland, USA
January 6, 2007
Opened a bean pod laying on the ground to see these inside.

Moved
Moved from Millipedes.

Brachyiulus sp.
The color pattern -- with a yellowish middorsal stripe that includes a narrow black line -- coupled with the fact that they came from an urban environment say conclusively that these are introduced European millipedes belonging to the genus Brachyiulus (Julida: Julidae). Two species are known from the US, B. pusillus & B. lusitanus, which can only be distinguished by details of the male genitalia or gonopods. Brachyiulus has been widely distributed by man across the US & Canada.

Diplopods
These are cylindrical-bodied millipedes.
