Marc, thanks for the ID and info. I kept the specimen and will be sending it to Brad Barnd to examine.

Looks like
Xyleborus seriatus. It was first reported in Massachusetts in 2005. See reference here http://www.barkbeetles.info/pdf_assets/hoebeke_rabaglia_2008_proc_ent_soc_wash_110_470.pdf. The scutellum has a sunken in area surrounding it.
I see this species often in our funnel traps in central Massachusetts.
