Oregon Horntail - Urocerus gigas - Female
Lostine River, Lost Lake Trail, Lostine, Wallowa County, Oregon, USA

We found this Horntail on some downed wood along the trail. She seems to be laying eggs. It's not clear exactly how the ovipositor works but it seems to be inserted into the wood, down from the center of her abdomen.
