Photo#9201
rufous Soldier Beetle

rufous Soldier Beetle
near Ailsa Craig, Ontario, Canada
June 12, 2003
This was meant to be a "still life" portrait of a beetle resting comfortably on a grass stem but in the lag time between pressing the shutter release and capturing the image, the beetle decided to leave, and politely turned to say Good-bye before departing.
IDed as Cantharis rufa by Dr. Pat Bouchard, Agriculture Canada.

Moved
Moved from Cantharis rufa.

ID very doubtful
C.rufa is a completely red species, only the thorax, and part of abdomen infuscate.
This specimen seems to have a partly dark head, and for sure, dark hind tibiae. From this photo, it can´t even be told it belongs in Cantharis.

Consequently, it is moved to family page.

Dactylis glomerata
On what appears to be orchardgrass (for Patrick!)
