Shore Bug - Saldula

Shore Bug - Saldula
Ailsa Craig, Ontario, Canada
October 8, 2004
Several of these tiny (4 mm) bugs were walking on rocks beside a river. They look like Saldula species (family Saldidae) that have long closed cells at the tip of the wing. Apparently, Shore Bugs live as far north as the arctic circle in Russia - and presumably North America too.

Neat creature
I've never encountered this family—or if I did I didn't recognize it. Thanks for letting us have a look!

Looks similar to Toad Bugs but not as toady.
