This black caterpillar-like insect was eating a pipevine swallowtail larva (as seen in photo). When a man picked it up with pliers, it secreted a pink liquid.

I was thinking it might be the Caterpillar Hunter, but it's so hard to fine larva pictures of beetles.

 
Carabid larva
My guess is it's one of several large caterpillar-eating ground beetles. I've noted that some carabids at least prefer the same food types as larvae and adults.
