Acronicta - Acronicta afflicta

Acronicta - Acronicta afflicta
Katy, Harris County, Texas, USA
May 11, 2014
Finally had emergence on about the 11th. The color here seems a bit darker than the other brumosa photos here. Could this be afflicta? Not sure how to distinguish these two. Even the larva are quite similar.

Moved
Moved from Charred Dagger.

I now think you had it right in 2014, the adult is too dark for A. brumosa.

Interesting
An interesting result. The D1 setae (those closest to the middorsal stripe) were quite prominent in the larvae which suggests A. brumosa but as you note the adult is a ringer for A. afflicta. I suppose that could be due to the larva having recently completed a molt in your photo. I wonder how it looked closer to pupation.
