Damselfly in the yarrow -
Enallagma doubledayi
-
Americus, Sumter County, Georgia, USA
May 20, 2014
This damselfly was eating something off of the leaves of the yarrow plant. I couldn't see what it was. Identification is appreciated.

Enallagma doubledayi (male)
See
Martin Reid -
Enallagma doubledayi
.
The only other "blue-type" (more blue than black on the abdomen) bluets in your area area are:
Enallagma durum
Note the pale dorsal carina on top of the thorax and the pointed black markings on the middle abdominal segments.
In
E. doubledayi
the dorsal carina is not pale and the apical black markings on the middle abdominal segments are not pointed.
Enallagma civile
Note the much longer cerci at the end of the abdomen.
Enallagma davisi
Note the lateral black marking on the side of abdominal segment 8 and how abdominal segment 6 is largely black.
Field marks and range info are per Paulson

it was more silver looking than blue
The photos you shared are much bluer than the damselfly appeared to my eyes. In real life, it appeared as metallic silver, including its eyes. Thank you so much for the helpful identification notes. I really have a difficult time sorting out all the little differences. Thank you!

Immature or Cold
The reason that your damselfly appears light-colored rather than blue is that it is either immature or perhaps just cold.
