barnacle scale
It's on my Lady Margaret passion vine. How do I get rid of it?

Moved
Moved from Soft Scale Insects.

reminds us of a scale insect
such as Barnacle Scale - Ceroplastes cirripediformis, see

Scale
In addition to your photo which is a match, I checked and found another picture of Ceroplastes cirripediformis at the U.S. National Scale Insect Photographic Collection.

Thanks,

VA

gravid female scale
is my guess.

Gravid female scale insect
How can you tell it is female and gravid? Just curious.

Thanks,

VA

Only a gravid female
would swell up to such a comparatively enormous size, looking like some kind of stem gall. Most scale insects are flattened down onto the stem and consideably smaller.
