BIG crane fly - Tipula abdominalis

BIG crane fly - Tipula abdominalis
NW of Tupper Lake, St. Lawrence County, New York, USA
June 2, 2006
Size: length 41mm
This is the biggest crane fly I've ever come across....

Tipula longiventris maybe
see Guide

It does look like
a Tipula longiventris, but the solid color of the dorsal abdominal plates and the narrow ovipositor indicate otherwise a Tipula abdominalis . - Chen
