Eastern Hercules Beetle - Dynastes tityus - male

Eastern Hercules Beetle - Dynastes tityus - Male
Jacksonville, Coastal Onslow County, North Carolina, USA
January 11, 2007
Size: approx. 2 inches
We found this Eastern Hercules Beetle under a lodge pole pine tree in our front yard. Since the day these pictures were taken, we have looked for him everyday and he is still there. He has been burrowing into the ground, but each day he is in a new spot. We think that there may be more than one, but have not been able to confirm that.
