Investigating a split log in the woods; length about 12 mm (not including ovipositor). I figure the more colorful and distinctively patterned a thing is, the more likely someone will recognize it. The yellow bands on the antennae, for example: all other ones I've seen have been white. Any ideas on this one?

Ichneumon wasp
Definitely a female ichneumon. It is in the genus Arotes, one of the few that you can get to genus pretty easily.

Arotes sp.
Thanks, Eric. Photos of a Japanese species show similar features and a nearly identical wing pattern.
