Dirt balls
Orinda, Contra Costa County, California, USA
May 31, 2014
Size: diameter 5-6 mm
Hundreds of these smooth, hard, precisely spherical dirt balls lay on the ground under a board, with many attached to the underside of the board. The board lay in an oak/bay wood 10m from a stream. When broken open with a knife, they reveal a central hollow containing a tiny white lump.
