Scolops Planthopper - Scolops pungens

Scolops Planthopper - Scolops pungens
London, Ontario, Canada
July 28, 2004
On goldenrod stem in damp meadow; length about 9 mm. Cedar Creek shows 3 Scolops species, and another site shows a "Partridge Scolops" (Scolops perdix) but I don't know how reliable that ID is.

(Update 16 Mar 2005) The images in the above link to "Partridge Scolops" (Scolops perdix), have been identified as Scolops sulcipes by Dr. Hamilton.

(Update 25 Aug 2006) I lightened the above image somewhat and increased the contrast to make the wing venation more noticeable.

Moved
Moved from Scolops angustatus.

Scolops pungens
Now that you have darkened the image, one can see that the wing margin has dark markings, so this is not S. angustatus which has an unmarked wing margin. The venation is simpler than in S. sulcipes.
