Eumichthus oedipus, det. by Ian Swift
I just saw my first specimen of this species this week. Your specimen is an interesting variation. Thanks for posting, Joseph.

Thanks for the ID Brady
appreciated!

nice -- thanks all

Eumichthus oedipus LeConte or Nathrius brevipennis Mulsant
Both species are variable. Dr. Steven Lingafelter couldn't be sure which of these two species this specimen is.

hmm... wasn't this posted already?
pretty sure i saw this, and left a comment... and even sent the link to an expert

nope
I just caught this critter 2 days ago, and snapped its smiling face last night. Now a few minutes after I posted the image, I realized it needed a little more brightness and contrast, so I reposted a better looking image and deleted the previously posted version. But I didn't (and don't) see a comment posted.

puzzled
so the image was indeed deleted, with the comment... what was the point?
you could've simply replace it with this improved version...

mixup
I must have made the replacement at the same time you were commenting - or something like that. I'm puzzled too. There was no comment before I made the replacement, and no comment after I made it. Apologies if I did something wrong...
