Black-Shouldered Spinyleg - Dromogomphus spinosus - male

Black-Shouldered Spinyleg - Dromogomphus spinosus - Male
Mason Farm Biological Reserve, Orange County, North Carolina, USA
This clubtail was hanging out on a sandbar, chasing after the butterflies that came to sip water there. This appears to be a male--it has a clubbed tail, though it is not that large a club. The illustration in Dunkle, Dragonflies Through Binoculars show the female with virtually no club on the tail.

Date TBA--PC. (Date was possibly 7/10/93--cf field notes to photos.)
