Unidentified - Callirhytis seminator
Old Saybrook, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USA
June 7, 2014
Size: 2-3 inches
This was found hanging from a branch of a tree (oak, I believe). I wasn't sure if it was of insect or fungal origin, but someone suggested that it was made by a wool sower gall wasp.

Correct--it is a gall on white oak made by Callirhytis seminator.
