BMSB? - Euschistus tristigmus

BMSB? - Euschistus tristigmus
Andelot Farm, Worton, Kent County, Maryland, USA
June 7, 2014
Is this just a BMSB? I'm not quite convinced... The "shoulders" look pointier, and it has red antennae, not brown. It also seems to be lacking certain subtle markings across the "shoulders".

Moved
Moved from Euschistus.

same subfam, diff. tribe; need ventral shot to tell sp. [servus?
Moved from Stink Bugs.

Does it help to know
it had 3 black spots on the underside? Judy Gallagher saw it upside-down and just reminded me of that.

not just helps... it's a deal-breaker
basically, all we need to know to tell species (called tristigmus for that very reason!)

i wasn't subscribed and missed your last comment, sorry

Oh, excellent -
thank you! One more species for that bio blitz. :)

Darn
Thanks for letting me know. This was the only view I got, in passing, as I noticed it on a branch I walked by during the bio blitz. I'll have to find out if anyone collected any of these.

it's one of the two most boring spp anyway
to avoid frustration, adopt the procedure whereunder your subjects get photographed from the smallest to the largest, so you start photographing bugs 1 thru 2 mm only after all the bugs under 1 mm have been photographed, then switch to the 2-3 mm category, and so on; i guarantee you won't even come close to the 9-10 mm range (which is essentially junk anyway))))))))))

I find myself
fascinated by the smallest anyway, so I naturally tend this way, but this was for the bio blitz, where I tried to pay attention to everything, even the mundane, who may end up being overlooked by everyone simply because they're so "boring". ;)
